Anilao is a coastal barangay in the municipality of Mabini, Batangas, Philippines. Located approximately 2.5 hours south of Manila, it is widely regarded as the birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines.
The area sits within the Verde Island Passage — recognised by marine scientists as the "centre of the centre" of marine biodiversity. This narrow strait between Luzon and Mindoro supports an extraordinary concentration of marine species, making Anilao one of the premier diving destinations in the world.
